I think it is a gross simplification to say that Ho Chi Minh (or Ngo Dinh Diem) is respected and loved in North Vietnam and most of South Vietnam. The Vietnam War may have started as a war of independence, but it degenerated into a struggle between two political and economic systems. Both governments became Leviathans ordinary people tried to stay clear of. In 1975, the more efficient and ruthless Leviathan won. Twenty years later, this Leviathan is being put to sleep by its masters and a bunch of capitalists.
