Sorry for the lose of life, but not the outcome of the war

From Clarence Land, on Fri, 27 Sep 1996 00:23:26 GMT (in response to: Interesting)

It is sad that so many lost their lives in a war that appears to
have made no difference at all. It was just a sinkhole for
America lives and money, and had the South won the war
they would still be bellying up to the bar at the American
taxpayers expense. My travels in South Viet Nam were very
limited but from the best I could tell the government there was
the most corrupt in Southeast Asia. I felt then, and continue
to believe, that the South Vietnamese officials, including the
Armed Forces, were in just for themselves and cared nothing
about the outcome of the war one way or the other just so
long as the cow continued to give milk.
Therefore, it is reasonable, to my mind, that the
people of South Viet Nan did not support the government of
the South but instead kept going over to the other side. But
in the end they found the reality of North Viet Nam far less
palatable than the campaign literature.
The loss of the war in Viet Nam is to my mind of no
consequence.
