No to Ho Again

From LD, on Tue, 30 May 2000 20:12:55 GMT (in response to: Uncle Ho was loved and respected.)

First of all, Ho Chi Minh only received rural poor support because he used repressive tactics. When you have a gun stuck to the side of your head, you obviously have to follow the North Vietnamese orders or be shot!. Second, Ho Chi Minh was sly and ruthless. Whoever dissented from Ho was immediately shot or tortured. In fact, today, over 25 former Communist officials and intellectuals are under house arrest or are imprisoned simply because they had exposed the blatant corruption and unjust war tactics of Ho Chi Minh's North Vietnam!. Third, the South Vietnamese President, Ngo Dinh Diem, tried to make the best of a tough situation, He was the man who actually could have saved the country from the evils of Ho Chi Minh. He was neither corrupt nor oppressive-his brothers were more corrupt and the rural poor were too gullible to realize what Diem wanted to do to save the country!!! Fourth, if you ask any poor person today, he/she would not support the Communist government nor Ho Chi Minh. Finally, to answer the argument that Ho Chi Minh was the most capable and respected leader, that is false. Ho only wanted to reunify Vietnam under his control and in order to do whatever he wanted with it. Just look at Ho Chi Minh's former palace. Seems he didn't really side with the poor; rather he was quite exploitative of the poor. On the other hand, Ngo Dinh Diem had no wife, no property, and owned only a few suits. He was the poor man compared to Ho!!! We must all elucidate the truth of Vietnam, that the North Vietnamese were more corrupt and oppressive, and that the South Vietnamese were trying to restore order to a country that had never experienced order before!!!
