Children

We have adopted from Vietnam

From Linda Pozzi, on Tue, 09 Sep 1997 16:26:43 GMT (in response to: Adoption)

My husband and I adopted a baby boy from the Kien Giang Province Orphanage. His arrival date was June 24, 1994. He was approximately 3 1/2 months of age at the time of his arrival. We cannot express the undying love that we have for our son and the joy that he has brought to our life! Adoption is such a wonderful way to become a "family!" I only wish that it weren't so expensive and that more people (including ourselves) would have the opportunity to adopt these children who so desperately need a forever home! We know that we would love to have a houseful of children, but financially, it appears that our son, Nathaniel (whose name means "Gift of God") will be our only child. We thank God every day that Nathaniel was destined to be our child.

Nathaniel's birth name is Do Tri Hung. We are interested in learning as much as we can about the Vietnamese people, the history of the country, the culture, and the customs, perhaps even, the meaning of his Vietnamese name. We wish to incorporate some of the traditions, etc. of the Vietnamese in to our family in hopes of educating our son about his birth country and heritage. We want him to be proud of who he is and where he came from. In our efforts to find materials about the country of Vietnam, traditions, culture, holidays observed (and how to observe them), we have run into road blocks. It seems that there is much written about the Vietnam War, but not about the people themselves.

Would anyone be able to help educate us is this area?

Thank you!

-Linda
