EDST4000 - Criteria for Assessment

  1. Approximately one-half the final grade is based upon the quality of active/interactive participation which requires original, creative, problem-solving behavior. Being present for every class ensures participation. It also assures a final assessment of the grade of B or greater. In reality, there is no substitute for actual participation. When, for unavoidable reasons, it is necessary to be absent, the student will contact a “class-buddy” for information on the class activity, prepare the assignment as if present in class and e-mail it to the professor. Make every attempt to schedule appointments for times/days when class is not in session.
  2. Rubric for class participation is essentially the same as that of written reflection.

  3. Approximately one-half the final grade is based upon written reflections contained in the student’s portfolio.

    Rubric for written reflection:

      • Excellent=Original/reflective/imaginative thinking, demonstration of thorough understanding, correct-standard written expression, complete responses to question, issues, problem-solving tasks, scenarios assigned by professor.
      • Good=Demonstration of understanding of all major concepts, correct-standard written expression, complete responses to questions, issues, problem-solving tasks, scenarios assigned by professor.
      • Fair=Demonstration of understanding of most major concepts, correct-standard written expression, incomplete responses to questions, issues, problem-solving tasks, scenarios assigned by professor.
      • Unacceptable/Poor=Demonstration of understanding of few major concepts, sub-standard written expression, incomplete responses to questions, issues, problem-solving tasks, scenarios assigned by professor.
