Day 6
7/24
First draft of Essay III due, with metatext.   Read in Speculations essays by Berman (348) and Lyman (386).  Write a response to the Berman that searches for patterns in the behavior of these women with eating disorders.  That is, what do you find out about eating disorders.  (You can compare these women to women you know in your own life.)  For Lyman, do a part-whole analysis, making sure you write down a substantive statement of the main idea that includes all the parts!  Then write a brief response to his main idea. Workshop Essay III both as full class and in small groups.  Review the readings.
Day 7
7/25
Second draft of Essay III due, with new metatext.  Read Greenstein essay (370); do part-whole analysis to arrive at main idea, but don't do freewrite yet (unless you have time). Workshop Essay III.  Do editing work.
Day 8
7/27
Final draft of Essay III due, with metatext and all previous drafts.  Mid-term self-assessment due.   Begin Essay IV.

Requirements for Essay III:
+    Main idea develops an idea about gender that arises from careful reading of the stories of Essay II.
+    Cites stories as evidence for ideas, using MLA format for both in-text citation and Works Cited page. (You may
       use other evidence as well.)
+    3-4 pages typed, double-spaced, with metatext for each draft
