F100 crew chief of tail #383 "thunderchicken"

From charlie cafarelli, on Sun, 04 Nov 2001 05:29:38 GMT (in response to: Phan Rang 6/70-6/71)

i was there 6/70 -6/71 and worked the reventment right in front of the tower. "383" crashed at the end of the runway one night and i took over "952". a couple of the pilots were lee howard and charlie sublette. working the alert pad was the best, fast turn arounds and good stories from those crazy jocks, standing on the rudder pedals and waving both fists in the air. what a place to be....army pilots in pipers, aussies in canberras and c119's lighting up the sky at night. our house girl was named "BYE". koreans stopping by our bar for a brew. aussie shows were better than uso shows. beer in steel cans! would do it again in a blink!!!
