SPIT, SPIT, SPIT, SPIT, SPIT AND YET, MORE SPIT!

I gave my friend a big hug and kiss when he got home, and my kisses aren't any wetter than anyone elses. I wrote to him every week. I told him about marching to Washinton DC for one of the massive marches. He thought it was great and told me the vets supported what we were doing. He said the war was unbelievably stupid. They just wanted to come home. As far as I'm concerned, I did my job. Jane Fonda did hers. Her action caused a major backlash against her that continues to today. She was not a traitor though. I have a great deal of respect for that woman. Now, I'm glad you found your military service so rewarding. But you had the option of going. Let me say one more thing. Many, many lower-middle class and working class did not go to the war. There were many ways to avoid the draft. You did not have to have big bucks to do it, just determination. DO NOT MAKE A CLASS WAR OUT OF THIS. One of my boyfriends from the lower working-class simply did not register for the draft. A problem that caused considerable problems for him later. Many went to draft counselors who advised them--for free. If you were determined not to go, there were many ways to avoid the draft, and support groups to help you. You just needed the gumption to stand up and say "HELL NO I WON'T GO." Lets see, David, went on a diet prescribed by a doctor, to get below the minimum weight required fo the draft. Another friend from Brooklyn, just floated around the country and stayed off the DMV and Social Security system during the war. Lots of fellas worked it out without college deferments. Your argument just doesn't cut it for someone (from working class America) who saw it all.
