Military

sooner or later there is a time to fight

From John Storey, on Sat, 12 Jun 1999 17:51:04 GMT (in response to: The promotion of war)

I was in the Australain Army for 11 years. I recently left the Army.

at the age of 18-22 I was desperate for a fight.

at the age of 23-26 I was still willing, though less keen.

at the age of 27-30 I became more aware that war involves untold hardships and I would go if required.

Perhaps this is most soldiers are young??

Having said all that, in WW 2 Australia was dircetly threatened. So somebody had to go and stop the Japanese.

And go they did. Well over 500,000.

I cannot see much point to war, but there are times when we need people to deploy and fill the trenches, sail the ships and fly the aircraft. When politicians fail, and the UN can't help.....

I am proud of my service, that i was willing to go and quite thankful that i did not have to go.
