B'Elanna,
Here is some of my experiences as a child in Viet Nam.
My mother and father were farmers, as so many people at
the time were. They lived under the French rule, but longed
truly for independance. When the war came, the war with the
French, they were very supportive of it. They wished for
my brother, Hung, and I to be able to live our lives in a
free country. It was all they cared about. It was their
greatest happiness when the independance was won and there
would be one united Viet Nam. Then it happened that, when
it was time to hold our first elections as a free nation the
elections were not allowed. This was when the war with America came.
When the war came I was a little girl, about 5 years old.
My parents quickly joined the side of the viet Cong, so that
we could have true independance. In my small village I saw
many terrible things for being a child of such a small age.
When I was 8 years old the Republicans captured my father
and took him to the large prison for Viet Cong. There he e
xperienced much torture, such as being held in the "Tiger
Cages", where prisoners were held in a small area barely
large enough to turn around in and were made to endure the
elements because of the cages open tops. My mother then had
to raise us on her own, and things were very hard. I became a
Viet Cong child when I was taught in school that this would
help my family and bring us honor. I preformed many small
tasks for the soldiers, and as I grew older my missions
became harder. Ask me about any of it and I can tell you
what you would like to know. As i said, I want to tell those
who don't know the truth about my country. Please contine
to write with me, I look foward to hearing from you
