Peace is Unimposable

From Ryan Solchenberger, on Mon, 27 May 1996 17:36:20 GMT (in response to: We have to fight for world peace!?.....)

Although U.S. foreign policy has created an appearance of world peace and stability, our coercion merely masks the struggles. This appearance is created by instilling fear in other nations through coercion making militarily weaker countries submit to our 'might makes right' morality. Although the world expects the U.S. to act in response to all forms of seeming injustice, this does not entail they wish or want the U.S. to act. Often this expectation is seen in disgust (i.e., the Iraqi embargo.) Peace will indeed come in time, but not from anything the U.S. does through foreign policy. The domestic violence within the U.S. is evidence we are not capable of imposing peace on people, even those who live in our nation. Peace must be chosen. Individuals must abandon their old systems of belief while adopting new beliefs. These beliefs are going to be based on reasons. One reason for choosing an attitude of peace is justice being acheived. People will struggle against injustice, no matter how powerful it is. An appearance of peace and stability is not always the actual thing. When people have reasons to choose peace, when they see it as justice being served, then peace will be a reality.
