Lam Son 719/ Dewey Canyon II

From Bill Baker, on Sat, 20 Jul 1996 03:18:54 GMT (in response to: War)

The last operation of the war was Dewey Canyon II, Lam Son 719.
The area was on the Laotian border on the techphone river. I
lived there for a couple of months. We fought and died there at
a time when the war was over. My question is... IF they really
wanted to win the war.. why didnt they cut the Ho Chi Min Trail
right at the begining of the war. IN interviews I have read of
officers in the north.. when asked what could the U.S. have done
to win... responded .. cut the trail in Laos. Seems odd to me
that the last operation of the war which was really just to
buy time, should have been the first.... to WIN.

I was a gunner on a "Duster" twin 40mm cannon on a track. B-btry. 1/44th automatic weapons self propelled. "The Tin Rabbit" B212 Our home was Dong Ha, 1970, 1971. If any of my brothers should read this.. by all means.. contact me at the e-mail address. See ya sarge Bill
