Military

Defense contractors prospered from Cold War as whole, not Vietnam in particular

From Larry Seiler, on Wed, 18 Mar 1998 03:17:20 GMT (in response to: The U.S. did not lose the VietNam war for winning was not the objective.)

I am writing in response to the statement that the United States was not in the Vietnam War to win, but to prolong the war in order to wreap the economic benefits war creates. Although there is some truth to that statement, it must first be recognized that defense contractors (Military Industrial Intelligence Complex) were already in position to benefit from the Cold War in general, not Vietnam in particular. The assumption that the U.S. was not in the war to win has very little validity when considering the course of military escalation throughout the late 60's and early 70's. I have a lot more to say, but don't currently have the time so I strongly encourage those of you with contradicting beliefs or whatever to e-mail me and we'll talk... always willing to share my perspective!!! Thanks
