understand

From Jen, on Tue, 24 Jun 1997 17:08:03 GMT (in response to: Allthe women and children)

I can understand what you feel about the women and children. I try not to lose sight of what matters. Yes, there were many bad people there who took advantage of the women and children, who murdered them. But you can not possibly know who did what, unless one confessed to it. So, I refuse to persecute all of the vets. It IS just like society both today and "yesterday". It's sad, isn't it? However, I'd like to point something out to you although it does not make anything done "right" Did you know that there were many MANY women and children who were "charlie"? Women that would lead an American to his death? Children who would strap grenades to themselves and run into a resturant or the center of a platoon? Sacraficing their own lives to kill a few Americans? The Viet Cong killing their own children and women? Women sending their child out to "take out" some American forces. I'm not saying it makes anything right. On either sides, both were wrong and ugly. It was war. But I am saying, look at the whole picture. You're right, don't forgive the atrocities, but don't forget the blood wasted. Both Vietnamese AND American. Our American "boys" weren't ALL to blame, and the Vietnamese weren't either. There are too many elements that fall into place to blame one group or another. Just try not to point your finger at only one group. Though you did say you respect those who hadn't participated in that particular ugliness. But how can you know who you respect, when you don't know WHO actually did it? The Lord will take care of the "offenders", don't fill your heart with hate too.
