As an Infantryman I can assure the Sky Crane crewman his efforts were appreciated.  I'v been covered with mud, dust and many other things from rotor wash, but the efforts from aireal resupply made life possible.  also the thought of having our wounded evacuated (admittedly not by a Crane), food, ammo, water etc. brought in - life wasn't great, but the helicopter, and it's crew made it livable.
