Separation Science Research Group

Nicholas H. Snow

Separation science is one of the major research areas in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, with several faculty members performing research on separations-related topics and nearly all using separation techniques.  We perform research in several areas of chromatography.  In gas chromatography (GC), we are interested in developing new methods for rapid separations and new sampling techniques, with a focus on pharmaceutical analysis.  We have active projects in headspace extraction, sampling and sample preparation, solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC).  In liquid chromatography, we are interested in the physical and chemical properties of molecular imprinted polymers and in their applications as solid phase extraction materials.
