The temple in the 5th picture (img106b) and the two pictures showing wall details and incenses is actually not a Buddhist temple, but the Temple of Le Van Duyet, very popular in Saigon. Noble Le Van Duyet was a commanding army general in the court of Nguyen Anh, the last king of Vietnam just before the arrival of the French. According to legend, Le Van Duyet was a patriot, frank and close to the people; his death was suspectedly a plot in the king's court. A suspicious death of a good man close to the people explains the devotion to his memory by people in South VN through hundred years until today. A tradition observed by thousands of people in Saigon is to come to the temple during Tet, the New Year feasts, to pray for his protection, but also to ask for his advice by "Xin Xam". The following 2 pictures show large incences most seen during those feasts, which last several days... Thanks for the pictures that bring back lots of emotion.
