Le Van Duyet

From Nguyen T. Lam, on Fri, 06 Sep 1996 17:20:51 GMT (in response to: About the 5th,6th and 7th pictures at the bottom)

It may be interesting to note that Le Van Duyet was an eunuch. He died a natural death in 1832, at the age of 70. A year later, his adopted son, Le Van Khoi, led a major rebellion against the Nguyen dynasty. After the suppression of this rebellion, Emperor Minh Mang was all too eager to brand Le Van Duyet as a traitor. He also ordered Le Van Duyet's tomb to be razed. Le Van Duyet's name was not cleared until much later, under the reign of Emperor Tu Duc (the last independent ruler of pre-colonial Vietnam).
