Do the Tighten Up - the Drells - 1968-69

I was at Phan Rang and worked at the bomb dump as a 461 between Nov 68 and Nov 69. At one point there was a daylight motar attack . One shell hit the SP barracks next to the post office. Rumor was that the organ player for the Drells ("I'm from Houston Texas and I can dance as good as I walk") was killed. He was supposed to be an SP who was cleaning gear outside the barracks. Did anyone hear that rumor and was it true?
