From Court Rhodes, on Wed, 30 Jul 2003 02:38:07 GMT (in response to: Do You Remember Any ROCKET or MORTAR attacks 70/71)
My most memorable rocket attack came on my fourth day at Phan Rang. I was a protective equipment specialist for the 614 TFS. It must have been the 19th of July, 1970, about 8:30 in the morning. A rocket landed about 75-80 yards from the BX and about 10 feet behind some guy who had his out processing papers in his hand, with four days left in country. That was my early wake-up call, you can't hear them coming and can't do a thing about them when they land. I just relaxed the rest of my year there and never gave them another thought. Felt real bad about the passing of that kid though.
