Intersting reading. I was in the First Infantry Division as a rifleman in Vietnam in 68. After seperation from the service jumped the fence and came out against the war. After thought and study concluded the war was something we didn't pay much attention to until it was too late. Believe Clark Clifford, Secetary of Defense under Johnson, was the first to launch a comprehensive study of whether winning was possible. Agree with the statement above that it taught us to pay better attention to the world around us and our place in it. Being patriotic had little to do with it, except to the people back in the world. We were drafted, trained and shipped. Our buddies meant more to us than any flag, although do admit am a bit more patriotic in my old age.
