I am so sick of hearing vets and their supporters crying about how they fought for our country and/or our freedom and no one appreciates them or how no one ever thanked them for their efforts. First of all, no one in that war fought for our country, unless Vietnam is a part of the U.S., and last I checked, its not. Secondly, this whole line about them fighting to protect our freedom makes no sense. They lost the war, so how are we less free as a result of that? Well, of course we are not less free so the whole argument that their fighting was for our benefit goes right out the window. As far as us thanking them for their efforts. Hello!!!! THEY LOST THE WAR!!!!!!!!! Why should we thank them??? The war was stupid, we had no business being there. The guys who went and fought, while its too bad they got tangled in the whole mess, my sympathy for them goes only so far. Anyone who had any brains could have gotten out of fighting. An uneducated, lower middle class young man from New Jersey got out of fighting by lying to the draft board and telling them he was a Mormon and homosexual. And before you freak out and say that man is a disgrace, keep in mind, the young man I speak of is none other than Vietnam Vet hero subject Bruce Springsteen. He admitted to so much in a 1980 Rolling Stone interview.
