Christmas 1967 at Doc Smith's hospital

From David Garner, on Thu, 17 Apr 2003 18:31:12 GMT (in response to: Kontum -October/68-April/70 125thATC Dr. Pat Smith)

I served as a doorgunner with the 57th Assault Helicopter Co in Kontum. We could see the Hospital as we approached the airfield and heard of what the doc was doing there. Ron Sanders and I saved up candy, soap, toothpaste etc from our Sundry Packs for a couple of months and took all of this to the hospital on Christmas day 1967. We were just going to leave them with the staff but the Doc suggested that we take them to the ward and distribute the things to the people. Compared to an american hospital this place was not much to look at but the people were glad to see us andl thankful for the presents. It was an experience that I will never forget.
