I served at Engineer Hill in Pleiku from 1969 to 1970, and during my time there, I spent more time at the nearby Montagnard Villages than I ever did in Pleiku city or at any other American Military Base in the area around Pleiku, and I always looked forward to going into a Montagnard Village and taking part in their customs.
I had been given several of the original Bracelets while I was there from members of the local Montagnard tribes around Pleiku, and I wish that I still had them today, because being in those villages among those wonderfull people was probably one of the few good memories that I still have of my time in Vietnam during the war.
I will be going to North Carolina next year to attend the next National convention of the Vietnam Veterans Of America, which will be held in Greensboro, NC. and since I know that there are many Montagnards living in North Carolina now, I hope that I will be able to meet some of them while I am there to attend the convention next year.
Many Vietnam veterans purchase those Montagnard Bracelets thru catalogs that specialize in such items along with other Vietnam era collectibles, but I would rather get them from a true montagnard and get it while participating in one of their traditional ceremonies, even if it was done here and not in their homeland in Vietnam.
