I'm only 38 years old (3/2000). When I was a kid, my mom would have the war on tv. I would say most of the time. Except for when we came home from school, we watched cartoons. What I remember was that we would pray for the "brave soldiers over there in viatnam, and for their safe return"...the sisters would have us say at St. Barnabas school in Philadelphia.
I guess what I thought about was the images that I saw on tv of soldiers fighting, helicoptors, the vietnemes, and try to understand what it must have been like to fight for your life to survive. It scared me. I prayed for our soldiers.
At that time, when I was about 7, 8, 9, 10...the music was "revolutionary". When I listen to the music of the early 70's on the radio today, it takes me to my mom's living room and the site of war.
Man, I can't comprehend what it must have been like for you. I think of innocence lost and feel sorry for the families that weren't lucky enough to have the sons and daughters come home.
Today, I have met a few Vietnam Vets that will share their experience, but I feel funny asking to many questions for fear that I would invade their "mental space".
I just wanted to say thanks! Someone is think of you.
Me.
God Bless You All JFM
