Stories from the Defenders of Freedom & Democracy

Hi all, I've never been in the military but would really appreciate to hear any detailed stories about what life was like. Starting from day 1 to whenever.. Start at why you joined the military (draft or otherwise) what went through your mind while in training, what was your family life like? How did they react? What friends did you meet? and so on.. share whatever you don't mind telling. Also, what was life like after the war, or your term of service.

It's just that I have so much respect for the military's men and women but I've never heard from a "VET" what life was like, only watched movies like: 1: When we were soldiers (sad movie) 2: Saving Private Ryan ect..
