Hello Giles: I wish to point out with the Falklands war the Brittish won that war only by (and some of the SAS,Marines, and Para's will attest to this) was pure luck. The Argintinian Army was not all that well supplied having dug in weeks prior to the Poms arriving and basically abandoned by their higher echelons.
Most had desserted when they heard the Gurkhas were going in to get them.
If anything that could be said the friendly fire incidents that killed Brittish soldiers was phenominal (hope I spelt that right)and the record there would make the Americans cringe. For this ask the survivors of B company and C company 2 para at the battle of fly half, and remember the sad loss of Col, H Jones, I don't know how true this story is but it was told to me by one of the soldiers in his command at the time he was killed. He was shot by his own men as he was an idiot and was about to have his command wiped out through his stupidity and incompetence, attributes common in the Brittish senior officers today.
The American military is notorious for killing it's own side and those on their side (allies),ask twelve Brittish soldiers that were attacked by an American A10 tank buster aircraft in the Gulf war and didn't live to tell the tale.
The Falklands war was won by 2 para and the 7th Gurkhas (from Nepal)and the assistance of the island farmers that towed artilary and mortars etc to positions the Brittish could not get to by military vehicle and farmers tractors did the job instead.
Please remember the Brittish military is class ruled and the stalwarts from the privillaged or wealthier class can be in command merely by their affiliation to Cambridge or Oxford for example and not their tactical prowess.
And as for the Falklands being a total Brittish war you forgot the Australian and New Zealand SAS that were there with the Brittish at the time.
The Brittish class system cost England the empire and was responsible for the embrassing defeats at Gallipoli, Singapore and the various battles and wars to follow. It has been proven to be run by incompetant persons that will still get in to the higher posts through the old boy system Britain has accepted through the years.
For evidence of what I wrote check out the history on Kitchener,General Haigh, and Gallipoli,Chunuk Bair read Breaker Morant, and watch Blackadder goes forth the General in Command on that program is typical of the Brittish senior officers of today and of that period.
Best Regards
