Children

Beautiful country, beautiful people

From Jennifer, on Sat, 20 Mar 1999 23:49:42 GMT

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Vietnam recently. I cannot think of a more beautiful place on earth. I, too, have many pictures of children, people, etc. from this country. But instead of suffering and pain I see love, hope, and general happiness in the eyes of the children. Perhaps I am only seeing what I want to see.

I was truly amazed at the acceptance of Americans by the Vietnamese. Although I was only 20 years old, and had no part whatsoever in the war, I feld ashamed at what our country had done to theirs. The Vietnamese people were whole-hartedly welcoming, accepting, and hopsitable. They are truly beautiful people, inside and out. I am extremely thankful that I had the opportunity to visit Vietnam. Instead of thinking about this place in terms of war and destruction I now think about the beautiful smiles of the Vietnamese. I learned so much from these people, and will be forever greatful. Jennifer
