I've just been through most to the pages on this site and find NOTHING that touches me concerning what the Vietnam War was like. Yes, I showed up. 1964-1967 when it was still a mostly volunteer force. The images you seem to be discussing here are NOT what Vietnam was like during the war. It was a hot, miserible, beautiful, terrifying place. People, indiginous and combatints alike did not live in the blissful environment pictured here. Any time forces for either side were moving through an area of operations, chaos reigned for all. You never knew whether the person you saw next was a friendly or charlie. The heat was oppresive and a constant source of irritation. Rather than spending your time viewing these innane pictures, buy one of the large anthologies of photo journalists from those years then take the time to talk to some "real vets". Most of us don't sit around recalling the in country experiences. Most talk is about R&R times or down times. But, if you ask the questions... most will respond in one form or another. As time goes buy I see more and more sites discussing how terrible we were to be there.. makes me puck. Visit some of the REAL VET sites on the web. We were kids, invincible for awhile, vulnerable later, patriots in many ways (we didn't go to Canada) and yes.. we ALL felt a powerful sense of duty and loyalty to each other...
