From zeus- This info. is classified-(somewhat although not fully), on Wed, 29 Jan 1997 16:15:51 GMT (in response to: The TRUE reason why America COULD NOT win in Viet Nam !!!)
My dad served in the CIA during the war running spec ops in Cambodia, Laos, North and South Vietnam. They were testing many of the laser guided weapons used today. My father said that by the end of the war, the malnutrition was so bad that the NVA was walking around with flashlights in the middle of the day to see. After TET, the NVA was virtually in a shambles, and they were on there last legs. The reasons we lost the war were as follows. First, our politicians and back door men wanted to show Russia we were willing to fight a war to end, no matter what the cost. Two, we had our soldiers walking in circles instaed of driving forward from a point and holding captuered ground, for example, my friend passed over the same enemy dead four or five times during his tour. Thirdly, Nixon pulled us out before the job was finished, i.e., before they surrendered or as the case was, the entire army starved to death. As for them fighting for freedom, don't overlook the fact that that is also what the South Vietmanese were also doing. Remember, parts of this were originally classified, so I will not include those parts, and I think that they were probaly declassified with the Freedom of Information act. Beyond this I am not at liberty to say. Bye. Leave response on your homepage here, Ill check back in one week.
