From Dan McCarthy, SMSgt/Ret and former USMC grunt and PH recep't, on Sun, 07 Jul 1996 00:29:19 GMT (in response to: The Endless Search for Reasons)
Elequent, articulate, poetic; but, really Chief, did you ever live in a poncho, never see a town, bed, hot meal or shower, have lice, leeches, jungle rot, etc. for 22 months? Ever shoot a weapon at a person (not just a sound!) I appreciate your political insight and observation, but the point is: we simply did not have the leadership, nor the intent to win any war in RVN...no more than we are doing now in SWA. It's a matter of "career buliding" and ticket punching. Be honest with yourself...how many MSMs are you wearing on your shirt? Think we (grunts) ever got that? And the AFAM??? No real award, Chief...a PCS present or one for doing what should be our jobs. Sour grapes...naw! had a great acreer and wouldn't trade it, but be honest...it's all a facade, isn't it?
