i was in nam from 61 to 65, and i was in the corp, 4th marines out of hawaii. my mos was eod which qyalifies me as a grunt. i was hit four and a half times. the reason for the half i caught one repelling out of a chopper in a hot lz while on a search and destroy. i was grazed in the foot but the corp counted it as a wound so i received another cluster to my collection.
and i agree with the master sargent the government did not want to win. all any one wanted was to try out all the new toys that stared popping up. i mean the m-1 was faded out, the m-14 came in then the ar-15 which ended up the m-16, then all the new boom booms that started showing their little heads. i mean big bussiness wanted it to last as long as it could.
and the main leader, in the beginning ,l.b. oh ooh "j.". did not know anything about being a leader in a war. and the rest of the goof' were even worse. we needed someone like chesy puller to run things and then we would have been kicking some vc ass.
chief did you ever have a cap crack over your head? did you ever catch a hot one from an ak? so please don't put your views out until you can really say something. sorry about being a bit agressive in this. fred
