You are an absolute moron. Let's think about this one for a second. Let's see. A person gets a draft notice. He is forced or willing to go to Vietnam because his country tells him to. It's not a matter of if the government has a right to do this, but of having to go anyway. This person trudges through the jungles of asia, bitten by bugs, blazing heat, soaking rains, America hates him, taking sniper fire, stepping on mines and booby traps, down time, drugs, orders his friend dies, loses a leg, he misses his girl, he wants to go home. Who's his enemy? They all look the same. He's there to do a job. The old man in the field looks innocent enough. Is he VC or not? There is ammuntion hidden in the thatched roof of his hut. Who's his friend, foe? Mortars, rounds, bombs, napalm, limbs, blood. EVERY FUCKING DAY, MONOTONY, FEAR, DOUBT, Will I die today? Now sit here and tell me that war is rational. You have the luxury of sitting here and being the most rational bleeding heart out there. Yeah, we killed women and children at My Lai. Our men burned huts at Cam Ne. But look at the conditions they had to endure. War dehumanizes the enemy and makes the leaders and the civilians one, especially if they all look the same. Detachment occurs. You can argue if our involvement in Vietnam was just until the end of time, many people, much smarter than yourself, have. Don't condemn the soldiers who fought and died doing their job. You have that luxury because it's 1997. Remember this: basic human survival relies on killing the other guy before he kills you. Put yourself in Vietnam and see what decisions you'd make you bitch. War is destructive and all people get killed. It's happened througout history. It may happen here someday. But for now, shut your mouth and support the Vietnam Vets. It was their job: right or not.
