Canadians in Vietnam

From Hal Laffin, on Thu, 16 Jan 1997 20:46:55 GMT

Most Canadians as well as the greater portion of Americans are unaware that young men from Canada died in Vietnam. Those of us who are aware of our lose are deeply affected by the presence of Canadian names on THE WALL. Seven names are listed as the POW-MIA.IAN MC.INTOSH U.S.ARMY-JOHN HOWARD REEVES U.S.M.C.- JONATHAN PETER KMETYK U.S.M.C.- JAMES GILBERT GRAHAM U.S.N.- GARY FRANCIS SHAW U.S.ARMY-MICHAEL JOHN MASTERSON U.S.A.F.-WILLIAM MARSHALL PRICE U.S.M.C. I do not print our guys names here looking for sympathy,I print there names because there are so few in our countrys the U.S.and Canada who REMEMBER THEM. There are 102 Canadians listed as casualties of the Vietnam War. Their names are on THE WALL in D.C. and on THE NORTH WALL in Windsor Ontario Canada. My family and I are proud to be numbered among the few in Canada who do REMEMBER. When we finally wade through the b.s. of politics we are left with the names of the lost, their familys, their buddies, their friends and people like me. I did not go to Vietnam but I do give a damn.I am not qualified to give an opinion on Vietnam because I was not there. I do know what the lose of a friend feels like. I do know how it feels to love. It would take much more time to try to say what I want to say about our Canadian Vietnam Veterans. I do not think that it could be into words at least not by me. To those Canadians and Americans who served in Vietnam WELCOME HOME. To those who served and paid the highest price, AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
