Military

Canadians

From John Hunczak, on Mon, 20 Jan 1997 02:25:17 GMT (in response to: Canadians in Vietnam)

Hal, Thank you for your comments. I for one did not know of the brave Canadians who served in Viet Nam. I regret the deaths of everyone who did not come home. I regret the bad experiences and memories of all who did come home. But none of the deaths or "bummers" can take away from the honor of their service. Whatever the intentions or reasons of those who served, all who answered the ultimate call must be remembered and honored. I remember that when we were over there, that only two other countries sent fighting forces to Viet Nam, Australia and South Korea. I hold nothing against the rest of the world. It was a tough call for everyone. Canada has been a terrific neighbor and ally! I remember that in the Gulf War, Canada had the second largest fighting force over there, and when discussions were held among the allied military leaders, most of those forces in the Gulf were represented. But the military leaders of Canada were omitted from these talks. That embarrassed me, and I would like to apologize for the oversight. Many in the U.S. take our good neighbors to the north for granted. I don't. I do not hold against Canada those Americans who chose to evade. I do my best to forgive those guys, too. There is one, though, who went to England and Russia, then lied about it, and managed to get his lying fat ass elected President. I have a real problem with that guy!
