NON-ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING

Dual Process theory of habituation- Use this file to explore Groves & Thompson's (1970) dual process theory of nonassociative learning in reflex systems. The theory is applied to data from M. Davis (1974)

ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING (Classical Conditioning)

These EXCEL files are designed to explore how changes in various conditioning parameters (e.g., CS & UCS intensity) affect acquisition curves. All files are based on the Rescorla-Wagner model of associative learning. The advanced student can study the equations by clicking on the Tab marked "Study the R-W Equations" at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

One CS- In this file several parameters can be manipulated to examine the effects on the Acquisition and Extinction of a single neutral CS.

Compound CS - In this file the acquisition of classically conditioned responses are examined when a compound CS is paired with an UCS. In this example the two CSs in the compound are neutral. When the CSs are unequal in salience the phenomenon of overshadowing is observed.

Compound with unequal CSs- In this file the acquisition of conditioned responses are examined again when a compound CS is paired with a UCS. However, in this example one of the CSs is neutral whereas the other CS was previously conditioned. This file demonstrates the phenomenon know as blocking. The unblocking effect can also be examined by changing the intensity of the UCS in the second Phase of the experiment.
