Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th Edition)

The new 2001 edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) is available at the  APA Style Web Site -  www.apastyle.org/pubmanual.html.  The Publication Manual  is an essential reference that all psychology students should own.

APA-Style Helper 3.0

The APA-style Helper program  is available at the APA Style Web Site.  As the companion program to the Publication Manual this program helps with the creation of components of an APA-style paper.  APA-style Helper will help you create the title page and abstract of your paper and format the references. All reference formats (print and electronic) are covered by this program.  You will need to refer to the Publication Manual to check APA style for the rest of your paper.

Mastering APA Style: Student's Workbook and Training Guide

If  you prefer to learn to master APA style on your own get yourself a copy of APA's self-teaching guide - Mastering APA Style  covering the latest edition (5th) of the Publication Manual.  Check the  www.apastyle.org web site for the availability of other resources.

EndNote  and ReferenceManager

EndNote  (www.endnote.com) and Reference Manager (www.refman.com) are sophisticated Information Management tools that are used by professional and student writers. These programs allow you to maintain a database of  all the references that you collect as you research and study the literature.  The references can be entered one at a time as you read your books and articles or you can create your collection by searching bibliographic tools that are located on the internet (e.g., PsycInfo, PubMed).  When you locate a reference import the information directly into your database. As you write your paper select the references in your database that you want to cite and they will be added directly into your document. The reference section of your manuscript can then be created instantly in APA style and many other formats.
