Chert - SiO₂–is made of microscopic sized crystals of quartz formed from the dissolved shells of marine animals. Has a conchoidal or shell shaped fracture and was used for arrow heads. Black chert is also called flint and can make a spark when rubbed against steel or another piece of flint.
