ARTICLE+ COMMENTARY

Preparation

    STEP ONE: Select an article that interests you in some way.

• It can come from a newspaper or a magazine.
• It can be a news article or a feature article
• It can be current or older
• It can be an excerpt or an article in its entirety -- what counts is that it is within the designated time range: anywhere between 30 seconds-one minute long

    STEP TWO:  Prepare a 30 sec-to-1 minute long commentary in which you discuss your reaction to the article.

• This commentary can be an explanation of why the article caught  your interest
• /OR/ it can be a discussion of why you agree (disagree) with the ideas in  the article
• /OR/ it can be a statement on why the material in the article is important for us to hear about
• etc.

Presentation Procedure: The in-class presentation will consist of 2 parts  & will last for a total of 1-2 minutes.

1.  First you will read the article out loud.  Be sure to read it with appropriate vocal techniques so that it will be clearly understood.

2. Then you will deliver your commentary. This commentary should be SAID, not read. You can use a notecard to help you remember your points of your commentary.

EVEN THOUGH A FOLLOWUP COMMENTARY IS NOT PART OF THE UPCOMING  ORAL INTERP PRESENTATION , This activity will give you some advance practice in "making the written word come off the page."
