ETHICS DEBATE - which was the worst?
In order to prepare for the in-class debate/discussion: NO ADVANCE COLLABORATION NECESSARY
1st step - Read Chapter 4 ( O'Leary) - especially pp. 75-78
2nd Step - View the author's video talk for this chapter: O'Leary: Chapter 4: Undertaking Credible and Ethical Research | Online Resources (sagepub.com) [if link doesn't work, acccess by logging into this textbook's Student Resources site on Sagepub.com
3rd step - On your own, look up some basic details on these "notorious" research projects [assignments listed below]. Details widely available online.
4th step - Each person should be prepared to debate (argue) this claim: "I propose that my example , __________________________[ Tuskegee, FaceBook-Cornell, Milgram] , is the most outrageous (egregious) example of unethical research--because..........."
Note: I have given you your claim. Each of you is responsible for providing evidence (data) & warrant (rationale) that PROVES why your example was the worst
5th step - Be prepared to discuss whether this experiment would have happened or would have happened in the same way if there had been IRB review.
