two scores will be added to constitute your grade for the component of your semester grade known as
the "Final". See the course syllabus to verify how much
weight "The Final" has on your
semester grade. |
THE WRITTEN
TEST
This part of the Final will be done
SECOND. ( takes up the last 50-60 minutes)
--Format will be:
- in the classroom
- done via paper( I'll supply) & pen /OR/ you can
answer the questions on your laptops & e-mail them to me before you leave the
room
- consisting primarily of multiple choice and "Short" Answer-type questions (1-2
sentences )
- there may also be definitions &/or brief essay-type questions (1
paragraph )
- Be prepared to answer the questions IN YOUR OWN WORDS -- not be
repeating/memorizing the text's words.
- Nevertheless, be sure your answers are concrete &
specific

completion of the Impromptu Speeches]
- approx. 10 multiple choice & 5 Short-Answer/Definition questions

Blackboard, & the assignment sheets for the various experiential learning
activities that you accomplished in the
second half of the semester ( e.g. the group projects

NV experiments &
the paraphrasing observations]
- Persuasive Speaking (including Chap 17
+)
- Group Communication ( including Chap 10
+)
- Interpersonal Communication &
Interactive Listening ( including Chaps 5,6,7,8
+)
- Nonverbal Communication
( including Chap
4 +)
- Selected terms from throughout the course
(
e.g. basic speech organization,
extemporaneous speech, indexing generalizations,
the orders-of-organization, etc,
etc.)
- You can expect about
one question per subject area
The Impromptu Speech
- This part of the Final will be done
FIRST. ( this part takes up the first 30-40 minutes)
- Each speaker will receive a topic (from a short
list of possible choices) + some brief directions &
then will have approximately 2-3 minutes to prepare an Impromptu speech
- Despite the shortness of the preparation time, the speech
should exhibit all of the characteristics of effective Oral
Communication [both in terms of speech construction & oral
delivery].
- The length of the speech should be 1-3 minutes.
- Depending upon its quality, the Impromptu Speech will
earn anywhere from 0 - 40 points.
Points awarded based on quality demonstrated in such items
as:
vocal and physical poise /
following the basic 3 part, speech "formula" / use of a variety of
supporting materials / rapport / insights on topic / personal innovations /
degree of personal improvement [since
beginning of semester]
context, encoding, vocal interferences,
