   DATE:  Refer to your Course Calendar--         This semester 2-3  advance  portions will be delivered &  submitted online via Mindtap  .

  ADVANCE QUESTIONS:     You can get started on these 4 items(tbd)  below  in advance. Three should be submitted directly in MindTap. Two are MindTap videoclips on which some exam questions will be based.  One should be typed  out & then pasted into the answer window for that question on the exam. 

*     I.   Chap 3 "QUIZ"  Submit directly through MindTap{ available 3/18/18 @1:00am-through-3/20/18 @11:59pm

   II.   Chap 13: "QUIZ"  Submit directly through MindTap { available 3/18/18 @1:00am-through-3/20/18 @11:59pm

*    III.     "Sneak Peek" Speech Evaluation : Review the transcript & video of the informative Speech "The Role of Sports in Society"  (4 minute clip)-- currently posted in MindTap in folder entitled: "Videos to view for the Midterm1 items collapsed activate to expand" . Answer & submit the FIRST & the LAST questions on the Blackboard posted exam will pertain to this videoclip. 

*    IV.     "Sneak Peek" -  Review the transcript & video of the narrative Speech "Ice Cream Assassin." (12 minute clip)  currently posted in MindTap in folder entitled: "Videos to view for the Midterm1 items collapsed activate to expand" . At least _1-2__ questions on the  posted exam will pertain to this videoclip.

*  V.  - TENTATIVE: Create 3 hypothetical examples of Citations ["Oral Footnotes"] - see  descriptions & examples on  p.237-fig11.8 (14ed=p.272)  / MindTap = Figure 11.8 {located within the chapter} Submit as part of Exam to be  posted in  Blackboard 


 


  PREPARATION TIPS: 

      1. Refer to your scores/feedback you received from your 2 online quizzes. 

      
2. Complete the  4   assigned above  "Advance Questions as indicated here &  in your course calendar. Please note items I, II, III are to be submitted directly through MindTap. There are _[tbd]__ additional things to work on in advance.

           Don't wait until the last minute to look at these specifications and questions. They all are relatively complex and, you should allow yourself enough time to complete them correctly and to ask for any needed clarification.

           You do NOT need to bring a "Blue Book".

 EXAM  FORMAT: (☼)  

          As always, you will be expected to use "your own words" in your answers 

 

          The test's questions will include a mixture of Terminology definitions, Short answer, Essay types and a some Multiple choice questions as well.  Be prepared to explain, to analyze, to compare+contrast, and to demonstrate the concepts. 

 

        

 

     


 
     AREAS-TO-STUDY:  (☼)  

       This exam will focus on the areas/chapters listed here--some of which were also part of your online quizzes.

           As  of now, the planned emphasis for this test will be on the information & related notes pertaining to:  Chapters 11, 12, 13, 14  & the ability to  demonstrate  Speech Construction Procedures. Also, you can expect to see some of the very basic terms/general concepts  from Chaps 1,2,3,4,15 & 16 (e.g. context, audience-centeredness, dating and indexing via language, perception checking,oral language style , high/low context,  conversational quality, extemporaneous delivery, speaking to inform, nonverbal communication  etc)

          Some of the questions will be repeats from online Quizzes #1 & 2

       SUMMARY & ADDITIONAL DETAILS:  (☼)  

 

  •  in the classroom
  • done via paper (I'll supply)  & pen  (you won't need your laptops.)                   
  •   consisting of a variety of question types: definitions/ terminology, "Short"Answers (1-2 sentences), and at least 1 brief essay.  Also, there will be some multiple choice questions.
  • length of test will be approx. 50-55 minutes
  • be prepared to answer the questions IN YOUR OWN WORDS -- not simply repeating/memorizing the text's words.
  • Nevertheless, be sure your answers are concrete & specific
