(via Communicate,chapters 4, 14,
[15/14ed.])
DUE FOR in-CLASS PRESENTATION & DISCUSSION: LS = Mon
9/13/21
►
ASSIGNMENT GOAL:
To increase your awareness & sensitivity about
some of the ways (both obvious & subtle) by which the word choices we make when
communicating can affect meaning & understanding
►BASIC PROCEDURE: In most cases, the same investigative task is assigned to several people. Nevertheless, this is an INDIVIDUAL assignment. EACH person should bring a representative NEWSPAPER/MAGAZINE/ WEBPAGE clipping to class on the date specified above. Clippings will be compared & discussed via small, "breakout" groups, and each team will select a "winner" to be presented to the full class. FOR THE CLASS SESSION, BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR EXAMPLE PULLED UP & READY TO "SCREEN SHARE" .
►ASSIGNMENT: Find your name below & complete the particular language investigation that is listed for you. Of course, you should FIRST read the applicable chapters: primarily 4 (Verbal Messages) & 14 (Language) [ previous editions = Chap3-Communicating Verbally]
NOTE: Whatever
the format of your example, you need to be able to tell us WHERE
it
was placed (i.e. what so that we can analyze how the language was targeted to a
particular audience. |
