- PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

{ EVALUATING YOUR GROUP'S DECISION MAKING PRESENTATION }

Rationale for this activity:

      This is an opportunity for you & your group members to recommend a grade for your presentation. Since each presentation has been videorecorded, you will be able to base your recommendation on critical thinking & hard evidence (just as you would in a group discussion) - rather than on subjective impressions and intentions.

       The skill of performance self-assessment is frequently used in the contemporary world of work.

Steps in devising this self-assessment + grade recommendation

There are several materials you will need to consider and/or consult in order to evaluate, grade/rank, and create a credible, accompanying supporting statement of your group self-assessment:

   already existing items that will be needed to complete this group assignment:

   a> the presentations assignment sheet ---- located online via course calendar & shortcut on Professor's main webpage

   b> the slide show on Decision Making ---- shown in class/back up version also available in Blackboard

   c> the texts explanation of Decision Making  ----- part of Chapter 9

   d> the Professors  list of grading/ranking criteria ----- available via the left section of Professor's main webpage]

   e> the video-recording of the presentation [I recommend that the group view & discuss the tape together at

                                                                          least once AS WELL AS that each person view the tape individually.]

   items the group will create for itself for its own use to help clarify issues as the group completes the items to be submitted :

   f* a consensus statement of its PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS for the decision making presentation.

             [i.e. What did you intend to accomplish?  How did you intend to accomplish it?  What level of quality

               did you expect to achieve?  What specific indications would signify whether or not this level of

               quality was achieved?]   [2-3 paragraphs] {One person compiles; everyone agrees on the content}

   g* the groups statement on its grading/ranking criteria  [How do  you define A? B? C? D?]

What each group will be handing in :

    a 1-2 page document containing the following items---

             1-  The grade that your group recommends for your Decision Making presentation

           2 - A "thesaurus"- like explanation of how your group defines that particular grade/rank

                [with specific reference to your groups grading/ranking criteria statement mentioned above]

           3 - A list containing at least 5 specific supports/reasons for the grade your group is

               recommending. Each reason should serve as evidence that your groups performance

               corresponded to specific items mentioned in your grading/ranking criteria & each reason

               should be connected to an observable/perceptible item in the videotape of the

               presentation. For greater insight into how to support a claim, you may find the text's

               guidelines on"argumentation" helpful for framing your statement.  (Chap 10, Engleberg)

SEE  CURRENT  COURSE  CALENDAR  FOR  SUBMISSION  DUE  DATE - [one hard-copy document per group]

What will happen with your submitted recommendation document:

     ►Recommendation packets (i.e. items 1 & 2 & 3 above) will be reviewed for evidence & reasoning.

     ►No reasonable offer will be refused. In other words, If your argumentation is solid, you will get the grade

        you recommend.

     ►Each group will receive a summary of the Professor's comments & observations
