CONFLICT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP - v.3 (film clip analysis+ mini-presentations)

W.I.G.4/5e

LAST UPDATED 11/30/11

 Rationale:
Conflict  is  Good!

In other words: Conflict in groups is inevitable but if managed appropriately, it actually can lead to better decisions/solutions and  better interpersonal relations. This occurs because the conflict forces the groups members  to acknowledge what isn't working -- on whatever level [ideological / procedural / ego-based[affective]  .

Every person tends to display his/her own individual style of dealing with conflict. However, on the group level there are other, broader approaches that help the group to do what is best for it as a whole.

This workshop activity will give you an opportunity to view some moments of group conflict & group conflict management - in action and  then match what you see with the principles &  techniques covered in your text & the online slideshow .

Procedure: step 1 /  View film clips depicting interpersonal conflict within an ongoing group  ( done in class)

step 2 /
With your mini-team mates, analyze what you have seen by comparing & matching it to the material in:
             > Chapter 9 [5e] (Chapter 7-4e)
             > the Conflict Resolution slide shows
                     - in class: Approaches to Conflict Management
                     - in Blackboard: Integrative Conflict Resolution skills
[self reflection , seeing the other persons perspective, using refocusing questions , paraphrasing , reciprocity]
( if possible,  portions from both SldeShws to be viewed in class  or  [if necessary])  on your own: out-of-class
>
 step 3 As a mini-team, present
*  your insights & findings to the rest of the class in a 5 minute, "debrief" presentation.
  ( in class)

*RECOMMENDED FORMAT:  SUMMARIZE miniteam INSIGHTS VIA POWERPOINT: 1-2 slides, max - this will save time & make your insights clearer to your classmates>  Note: For these, step 3 presentations,  each mini-team will have only 5 minutes to present its findings (i.e. the the "de-brief" of their analysis )

Groupings/Assignments:   go to directly to section AA     /    go to directly to section CC
