RATIONALE
& OVERVIEW
> This activity will give you an
opportunity to
learn-by-teaching.
>
As defined in your textbook & in class,
Nonverbal communication codes
are ANY of the
ways used by humans to exchange meaning -- other than using words--whether
spoken or written.
>
This assignment's end product = You will
teach your classmates about your specified NV concepts. In other words, your goal is to
explain
AND illustrate* the
Nonverbal Communication Code that is assigned to you below.
-----Each mini-lesson (which includes a presentation+demonstration) should be at least three(3) minutes-per-item/code
.
-----The first
step in your preparation should be reading
Chapter
7 ;
however,
you are also encouraged to reference material from other sources.
* >
Also,
please note
that:
_____"Explanation"
= a definition + discussion of item's significance to Human Comm.
______"Illustration" =
a tangible demonstration-example of your assigned NV comm. code "in action"
Presentation dates : Weds _2/12_ ( & will run over to Mon _2/17_) [However, being absent or unprepared when called on means you will be passed over & will receive an automatic zero. Teams will not necessarily be called on in the order listed below. ]
Presentation Format:
- Chairs/Tables will remain in our usual "circle". Anyone usually sitting in the center section that day will need to relocate for this activity. |
- Each person has the option of presenting his/her explanation portion & illustration portion from anywhere in the room but it's recommended that you consider the performance and visibility advantages of presenting "in-the-round" { i.e. center of room} . |
- Also, each EXPLANATIONS/DEMONSTRATION needs to involve both partners physically & vocally. |
- Remember you only have 3-5 mins. TOTAL per channel/code . |
Presentation Assignments: for section AA
Whenever possible, at least 2 people are assigned to a particular NV cue. This is because it is easier to SHOW Nonverbal items via a 2 person interaction. You don't have to collaborate outside-of-class, but you can if you want to.
[MOST PEOPLE ARE ASSIGNED MORE THAN ONCE-- as indicated with: {#} AND many of the other listed channels have more than one sub-element, anyway.
