revised & RE-revised: 2/8/16:
Kathleen Hall Jamieson, [ Prof. of Comm. / Dir. of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania.] WNYC: on-air interview, 9/21/09
> This activity will give you an opportunity to learn-by-teaching.
> As defined in your text & in class, nonverbal communication codes are ANY of the ways used by humans to exchange meaning -- other than via oral or written words.
> Assignment's end product = you will teach your classmates. In other words, your goal is to explain AND illustrate* the nonverbal Communication Code that is assigned to you below via a 3 minute-per-item presentation/demonstration. (The best first step in your preparation is to refer to the information in the first portion of Chapter 7; however, you certainly can add in material from other sources).
* >
Also,
please note
that:
"Explanation"
= a definition + discussion of item's significance to Human Comm.
"Illustration" =
a tangible demonstration-example of your assigned NV comm. code "in action"
Presentation dates : Weds _2/10_ ( & will run over to Mon _2/15_) [However, being absent or unprepared when called on means you will be passed over & will receive an automatic zero]
Presentation Format:
- Chairs/Tables will remain in our usual "circle". Anyone usually sitting in the center section will need to relocate for this activity. |
- Each person has the option of presenting his/her explanation portion & illustration portion from anywhere in the room but it's recommended that you consider the performance and visibility advantages of presenting "in-the-round" { i.e. center of room} . |
- Also, these EXPLANATIONS/DEMONSTRATIONS need to involve both partners. |
- Remember you only have 3-5 mins. TOTAL per channel/code . |
Presentation Assignments: for section BB
Whenever possible, at least 2 people are assigned to a particular NV cue. This is because it is easier to illustrate NV items via a 2 person interaction. You don't have to collaborate outside-of-class, but you can if you want to. [[Often, people are assigned more than once-- as indicated with : {#]]
