We have two sets of officers, Corporate and Military. The corporate officers are the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and civilian coordinator. The military officers consist of a lieutenant, a sergeant, and a corporal. Both sets of officers are elected annually for a one year term. Within the 142d we welcome both military and civilian reenactors. The military, of course, consists of all the soldiers. The civilians are primarily wives, children, girlfriends and so forth who dress in period and reenact with us.
In addition to the main group of Co G, 142d PVI reenactors, we have a subgroup of Authentic / Campaigners named the Indian Queen Mess. The Indian Queen Mess maintains an association with the Liberty Rifles and the Kearny Guards -- umbrella organizations of authentic reenactors.
Our annual reenacting schedule generally consists of approximately 20
events a year, and our reenacting season usually runs from April through
Remembrance Day
in Gettysburg in November. Our activities range from major reenactments
such as Gettysburg, Cedar Creek, and Antietam to small local living histories.
During the winter months we have a monthly business meeting (we skip December because of the holidays), and an annual family dinner in honour of Lincoln’s Birthday.
We don't have any formal minimum attendance requirements; we recognize that folks have other commitments, too. However, a bit of common sense prevails here. Members will start to question the interest and dedication of an individual who seldom participates. We have five or six high school and college students among our membership and we recognize that school takes priority.
Annual 142d dues are twenty dollars per year per household, so that $20 will cover an entire family who reenacts. Civilian reenactors have the option of full membership or associate membership. The only difference between the two categories is that associate members save twenty bucks and can't vote.
We strive for authenticity, and male members should acquire the
following uniform items and equipments. The prices below reflect
high quality authentic items.

Uniforms, equipments, tents and so forth are available from any of a
large number of sutlers (the equivalent of the modern day PX ). Some good
sutlers show up at major reenactments. Many of them also have their
own web sites. Many of the sutlers who attend major reenactments
sell inferior or inauthentic products. While
everyone appreciates a "bargain", please consult with one of the "progressive"
members of our group before making any purchases. Most of them will
be more
than willing to go shopping with you to help you find quality gear.
SAFETY: WE DO USE REAL FIREARMS LOADED WITH REAL GUNPOWDER. To minimize the risk to both ourselves and to spectators we follow relatively strict basic firearms safety rules, and provide annual firearms safety review and training . The second point is burning powder and making noise is a lot of fun. Unfortunately this can be expensive, but where possible we will direct members to vendors which specialize in providing powder, caps, and paper cartridge tubes to reenactors at the best possible prices. Generally this is much cheaper than buying these things from a sporting goods store.
Our membership is quite diverse. We come from all walks of life, and our membership ranges in age from junior high school students to retirees. The 142d itself does not have age limits, but common reenacting protocol states that 13-year-olds can take to the field as FUNCTIONAL musicians (not just uniformed children toting a drum); the minimum age to carry a rifle into battle is sixteen.
