Seton Hall's Information Technology Plan
The University's Technology Long-Range Plan Seton Hall
University has made a major commitment to information technology through its Information
Technology Long-Range Plan. This plan was approved by the University's Board of Regents in
1995 and revised in 1997. Under this plan the University has invested over $15 million in
improving its technology systems and services, including wiring of classrooms, residence
halls, and public spaces and replacing the University's fiber optic network and servers.
The University's technology plan focuses on the use of information technology in support
of teaching and learning. The University views information technology as a transformative
agent that not only enhances traditional modes of teaching and learning, but also enables
new kinds of teaching and learning and new methods of delivering the University's
educational services.
| Two of the most visible signs of
the change brought about by information technology are Seton Halls Mobile Computing
Program, an innovative academic program providing IBM Thinkapad computers to our students
and faculty, and SetonWorldWide, using information technology to deliver graduate and
professional degree programs worldwide. The University has also made a significant
investment in the technology infrastructure and support services necessary for teaching
and learning in todays environment. As a result of these efforts, Seton Hall has
been awarded the prestigious 1999 EduCause Award for Campus Networking Excellence, and was
ranked the 16th "Most Wired" campus in the nation in the May 1999 Yahoo!
Internet Life survey of the 100 Most Wired Colleges. |

As
a result of these successes, Seton Hall University has developed centers of excellence in
the areas of technology planning, faculty engagement and support, using technology to
enhance teaching and learning in select academic disciplines (including, for example,
English and Mathematics), and assessing the impact of technology on teaching, learning,
and student life. Through our partnership with IBM Corporation and the American
Association for Higher Educations Teaching, Learning, and Technology Group, Seton
Hall has formed the Institute for Technology Development (ITD) to further promote and
support the use of information technology.
