The primary focus of my teaching is Russian and Soviet History. I teach a two semester sequence, Imperial Russia and Twentieth Century Russia which provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of Russian history. More specialized courses that I offer from time to time include: Russia as a Multinational Empire, Russian Intellectual History, Kievan Rus and Muscovy, The World of Anna Karenina, The Transformation of Russia, 1894-1932, and In Stalin's Time: Modernization and Terror in Soviet Russia. In addition to courses in Russian history, I teach the History of East Central Europe, Introduction to Historical Methods and, of course, Western Civilization, parts one and two.
